About Us

Hayes Ranch was founded in Wilsall, Montana in January 2008 by Miranda Kaiser, the co-owner and Executive Director of Hudson Pines Farm, and rhayesparton [at] hayesranch [dot] com (Robert Hayes). The ranch was started in order to preserve the legacy and ensure the future of Hudson Pines Farm, as well as to grow in a location where we more easily can bring our Top-Tier Simmental, Angus, and SimAngus genetics to commercial cattlemen.

Hudson Pines, our sister ranch, was founded by Miranda’s grandparents, David and Peggy Rockefeller, in the early 1970’s. Miranda’s grandmother, Peggy, described herself as “born with a love of cows and farms,” and her vision was to “keep farmland in farming,” “to restore land that has been let go” and to prove that farming, ranching and raising cattle “can still be made to pay.”

About usBy any measure, Mrs. Rockefeller succeeded. She established Hudson Pines’ seedstock operations in Sleepy Hollow, New York and Bartlett’s Island, Maine, and developed a large-scale farming and stocker cattle operation in Livingston, New York. She was instrumental in the initial importation and development of the first polled Simmental cattle from Switzerland, and developed one of the nation’s most successful Simmental production sales. She also actively produced outstanding Angus genetics during this period and, in her spare time, founded American Farmland Trust to preserve farm and ranchland and help farmers and ranchers throughout the United States (an organization for which Miranda currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors).

It’s a legacy that Hayes Ranch attempts to protect and preserve, and a standard of success towards which we always strive.  Today, along with our sister ranches – Hudson Pines Farm in Sleepy Hollow and Livingston, New York as well as Hudson Pines at Rocking P in Maysville, Kentucky – we are producing Simmental, Angus, and SimAngus cattle with superior performance and low birth weight, and always with that characteristic bar-HP-bar phenotype that makes a sound, well put together, and long-lasting animal.

Within the Hudson Pines family, Hayes Ranch primarily focuses on producing and raising registered Simmental, Angus and SimAngus bulls and commercial cattle; Hudson Pines Farm on producing and raising registered females and maintaining our Simmental breed-leading donor cows; and, Hudson Pines at Rocking P on producing and raising registered SimAngus calves.
